Senate Approves Landmark Healthcare Reform Bill: What Are Next Steps?

By a 60 to 39 vote, the U.S. Senate passed a sweeping 10-year, $871 billion health reform bill designed to extend insurance coverage to 31 million uninsured Americans.

The legislation is expected to pass along party lines. When Congress resumes in January, conferees are expected to attempt to reconcile differences between the Senate bill and House-passed health reform bill (H.R. 3962).
